Palhoça, in Greater Florianópolis, has been standing out nationally as an example of a smart city and innovation hub.
At the center of this transformation is Inaitec, a private non-profit institute that for 15 years has worked to drive innovative entrepreneurship and improve the quality of life in cities.
With robust infrastructure and a collaborative ecosystem, Inaitec generates direct impact on nine of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aligning its actions with the global targets for economic, social, and environmental development.
For Diego Chierighini, Inaitec's executive director, the transition to a smart city requires putting people at the center, using technology to collect, analyze, and apply data in projects that bring real benefits to the population.
"It is essential to integrate mobility, security, the environment, and other urban services to ensure efficiency, sustainability, and talent attraction," he emphasizes.
The Pedra Branca Technology Park, Inaitec's headquarters, covers 250 hectares and houses around 2,800 companies. With a daily flow of 35,000 people, it functions as a living laboratory for testing solutions at real scale, from AI-powered monitoring systems to social inclusion programs.
Among the initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals are:
- SDG 4 – Quality Education: the "Prototipando a Quebrada" program has already placed more than 100 young people from underprivileged communities in technology and innovation companies.
- SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: 100% sewage collection and treatment within the park, plus an intelligent water consumption monitoring system.
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth: continuous generation of quality jobs and support for startup development.
- SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: an experimentation environment for new technologies in mobility, security, energy, and Industry 4.0.
- SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: training projects and opportunities for populations in vulnerable situations.
- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: integrated urban planning with spaces that prioritize well-being and connectivity.
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: study and application of technologies for waste treatment and reuse.
- SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions: collaborative governance initiatives between companies, the public sector, and the community.
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: cooperation with national and international institutions for joint development.
With these results, Inaitec consolidates its role as an agent of transformation, strengthening Palhoça's innovation ecosystem and contributing to Santa Catarina's advancement as one of Brazil's leading technology hubs.
